Why I Choose Squarespace: The Perks of My Favorite Website Platform

Hi everyone! Here I am, holding true to my blogging goals—yay me! Today, I want to chat about something near and dear to my heart as a website designer: Squarespace. In 2024, I designed over 20 websites, and around 80% of those were built using Squarespace. It’s safe to say I’m a big fan, but I also recognize that every website (and its needs) is different.

Before I dive into why I love Squarespace, let’s take a moment to define it.

What is Squarespace?

Squarespace is a hosted website builder. This means you don’t have to worry about separate hosting fees or downloading software—it’s an all-in-one solution. From the moment you sign up, you’re ready to start creating your website.

Now, let’s briefly touch on its rival: WordPress. WordPress is a powerful content management system (CMS) with endless customization options. However, it often requires coding knowledge, ongoing maintenance, and additional costs for hosting and plugins. While WordPress has its place for complex websites, my experience has led me to favor Squarespace for most of my clients.

Why Squarespace Stands Out

  1. Simplicity and Ease of Use
Squarespace is built with the DIY user in mind. Its interface is intuitive—think drag-and-drop simplicity. Whether you’re adding text, uploading images, or creating blog posts, the platform makes it easy to update your site.

WordPress, on the other hand, has a steeper learning curve. Unless you’re a developer or have time to master its backend, WordPress can feel overwhelming.

  2. Beautiful Templates and Customizability
Squarespace offers stunning, professional templates that serve as a strong foundation for customization. With a little expertise (like mine!), these templates can be transformed into a unique, tailored website that reflects your brand perfectly.

  3. Cost-Effectiveness
Since Squarespace includes hosting, templates, and many built-in tools, it’s a cost-effective choice. WordPress often requires additional costs for hosting, themes, and premium plugins, which can add up quickly.

  4. SEO and Marketing Tools
Squarespace comes equipped with robust SEO and marketing features. From clean, optimized site structures to integrated email campaigns, it’s an all-in-one solution. I can draft, design, and send a blog post with an email campaign in under an hour. On WordPress? The same process takes me twice as long.

  5. No Maintenance or Security Hassles
Squarespace handles all updates and maintenance, keeping your website secure without you lifting a finger. WordPress, by contrast, requires regular updates to prevent crashes or security breaches.

  6. Analytics and Support
Squarespace includes easy-to-read analytics that help my clients track their website’s performance. And if anything goes wrong, their customer support team is always ready to help.

Why My Clients Love Squarespace

When I design Squarespace websites, my clients often tell me how empowered they feel to manage their sites. After the design is complete, making minor edits, adding blog posts, or even launching a product becomes simple and stress-free. It’s their business’s online home, and they have full control over it—without needing to call me for every small change.

For DIY users, Squarespace is unbeatable in terms of ease of use. For me as a designer, it’s a platform that allows creativity to shine while keeping the backend accessible to my clients.

When WordPress Might Be the Better Fit

To be fair, WordPress has its place. For highly complex websites with unique functionality or large-scale operations, WordPress might be the better option. However, for 99% of my clients, Squarespace meets their needs beautifully.
